), a leading provider of digital audio amplification solutions, today announced the selection of DDX(R) Direct Digital Amplification for inclusion in Custom Control Concepts, Inc.'s (CCC) C-Stream Network in-flight surround sound entertainment system. DDX is the first All-Digital amplifier that meets stringent FAA requirements specifically for audio systems in VIP/Corporate aircraft. The approval by the FAA of CCC's C-Stream Network, including Apogee's DDX as a critical component, signals the eligibility of DDX for use in commercial airplanes and other mobile audio applications with critical weight, size, heat, and Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI (ElectroMagnetic Interference) An electrical disturbance in a system due to natural phenomena, low-frequency waves from electromechanical devices or high-frequency waves (RFI) from chips and other electronic devices. Allowable limits are governed by the FCC. ) design requirements.

The CCC Digital Amplifier See Class D amplifier.  is the first product incorporating high efficiency or Class D power amplification designed to meet stringent FAA requirements with respect to EMI. EMI is a critical design consideration in all mobile applications, but it is particularly important in aircraft where unwanted interference can affect the operation of navigation and communication systems. CCC selected Apogee's DDX because of its patented three-state switching architecture that has better EMI performance compared to competitive Class-D solutions that utilize a traditional two-state switching approach.

Kurt Mayhall, CCC President said, "We wanted to develop an all-digital audio system with a compact amplifier design for satisfying our aircraft and marine customers' size and weight constraints. DDX enabled us to create a small yet powerful amplifier that seamlessly interfaces with our digital C-Stream Network to deliver an end-to-end digital entertainment system providing an extraordinary in-flight theater experience."

"The successful FAA approval of CCC's in-flight C Stream Network solution is an important achievement for DDX because it validates the use of the technology in applications with stringent requirements such as aircraft and automotive systems See ITS, embedded system, drive-by-wire, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance system, autonomous vehicle, heads-up display, DSRC, lane departure system, CAN bus, FlexRay and SYNC. . It offers an integrated All-Digital audio and video entertainment system that delivers an in-flight, cabin-wide movie theater and music experience," said John Gitelman, Apogee's Director of Marketing. "Manufacturers of high quality audio systems used in automobiles, passenger aircraft, ships, yachts and trains can safely and confidently implement DDX's all-digital, high efficiency solution. We plan to leverage this success and pursue new opportunities for DDX in high volume mobile audio markets. For example, today, over 55 million new passenger vehicles are produced annually worldwide, with a growing percentage featuring new high quality multi-channel audio systems."
