 Clearance for Digital Pathology in Breast Cancer

VISTA, Calif. -- Aperio Technologies, Inc., (Aperio), a global leader in digital pathology for the healthcare and life sciences industry, has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the ER and PR image analysis applications available through its patented ScanScope[R] slide scanning system. ) image analysis applications are intended to be used as an aid to pathologists in detecting and quantifying ER (estrogen receptor estrogen receptor A protein of a superfamily of nuclear receptors for small hydrophilic ligands–eg, steroid hormones, thyroid hormone, vitamin D, retinoids; the presence of ERs in breast CA generally is associated with a better prognosis, as they respond to ) and PR (progesterone receptor progesterone receptor A progesterone-binding protein complex found in the cytoplasm of certain cells in particular of the breast, which belongs to the nuclear receptor family.
