Apache digital imaging system gets an upgrade. (Tech Talk).

The Army will upgrade the combat video-imaging system of the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter A helicopter specifically designed to employ various weapons to attack and destroy enemy targets. .

Pulse Specialty Components, of Bristol, Penn., will participate in the development of a high-speed digital video transmission system, using the Fibre Channel standard, said Estro Vitantonio, a company spokesman. This technology is part of the modernized Apache Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor, which is called Arrowhead arrowhead, any plant of the genus Sagittaria, widely distributed marsh or aquatic herbs of the primitive family Alismataceae (water-plantain family). The name derives from the arrowhead-shaped leaves of many species. .

Arrowhead uses a digital video to enhance recording capability and facilitate still-frame video imagery transmission to the ground commander or another aircraft during normal operations Generally and collectively, the broad functions that a combatant commander undertakes when assigned responsibility for a given geographic or functional area. Except as otherwise qualified in certain unified command plan paragraphs that relate to particular commands, "normal operations" of , noted Vitantonio. Pulse will supply the Fibre Channel transceiver (TRANSmitter reCEIVER) An electronic device or circuit that transmits and receives analog or digital signals. It comes in many forms; for example, a transponder on a satellite, a network adapter in the computer or the circuits in a cellphone.  line-interface module (LIM), which is designed to facilitate the transfer of huge blocks of data at fiber-optic speeds ranging from 531 megabits to 1.0625 gigabits per second.

Fibre Channel LIMs provide the transmit/receive conditioning necessary for bi-directional, point-to-point data transmission over common types of media, including printed circuit boards, backplanes, copper cable or fiber-optic media, said Vitantonio.
