(TM) As the Standard VM For Target Embedded Markets Through New

Architecture-Based Licensing Model

Aonix announced today availability of the first JS2E-class VM with a royalty-free licensing model.

Under the new model, PERC is licensed royalty-free by architecture with a single annual fee covering developer seats, maintenance and support, and deployment rights. Customers can enjoy royalty-free development -- an option available only from clean-room Java vendors -- in embedded software Instructions that permanently reside in a ROM or flash memory chip. Embedded software may be immediately available to the CPU or, for faster execution, may be transferred to RAM first and then executed. , and to easily and economically standardize on PERC for embedded Java technology.

"PERC is ideally suited for many of the target markets we serve," said Jacques Bryger, vice president of marketing for Aonix. "The PERC Virtual Machine offers a unique combination of capabilities and features designed to empower developers of complex embedded system Any electronic system that uses a CPU chip, but that is not a general-purpose workstation, desktop or laptop computer. Such systems generally use microprocessors, or they may use custom-designed chips or both.  with the benefits of the Java platform Running Java programs under the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Java "platform" refers to the running of Java programs versus Java itself, which is a programming language. Java programs are machine independent and run intact on any hardware platform that has a Java interpreter (JVM). , including ultra-reliable, real-time garbage collection A software routine that searches memory for areas of inactive data and instructions in order to reclaim that space for the general memory pool (the heap). Operating systems may or may not provide this feature. ; J2SE (Java 2 platform, Standard Edition) See Java 2.

ports for key embedded processors and real-time operating systems. Coupling these features with the new business model, along with Aonix distribution and support, brings our customers a very strong embedded Java solution."

"We are pleased to offer PERC through our distribution partner, Aonix, and look forward to many of their customers taking advantage of our new business model to standardize on the PERC VM for complex embedded applications," said Tim Tumilty, VP of sales and marketing at NewMonics. "PERC is the first J2SE-class embedded Java virtual machine to be offered under a royalty-free, architecture-based, subscription pricing model. Customers can now enhance and extend the licensed technology across multiple projects, products and locations all under a single, straightforward contract.

"The new reality our customers are facing is that they must do more with less. PERC offers all of the productivity advantages of Java technology with an unparalleled level of reliability and customer support. Couple these advantages with our new licensing model, and customers can dramatically improve productivity in and across projects, ease the administrative burden of multiple contracts, and reduce overall costs -- they can do more for less."

PERC is used extensively in network infrastructure, industrial automation, telematics and military and aerospace markets.
