Depression is a very serious condition that a lot of people suffer from, but few understand. Self-treating depression is never a good route to go. Some of the more common side effects across the board for these drugs include stomach issues, weight gain or loss, headaches and so on. They can even include loss of sexual desire.

Depression Medication
Depression medication can help a person who is dealing with a depressive disorder. Doctors have access to many different drugs, but they all fall into three main categories.
These categories are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), tricyclics, and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Depending on the doctor and the situation, one drug from these three categories will be chosen in order to help a person deal with depression.
One type of depression medication that doctors use is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors otherwise known as SSRIs. SSRIs are different than tricyclics and MAOIs because they work only on the neurotransmitter serotonin. Many depressed and anxious people may need medication for an indefinite period. This is the case when the depression is recurrent, when a chronic mild depression is complicated by episodes of severe depression, when there is a strong family history for depression, or when the stressful situation is not expected to end.
