Riemann (1902-1979) was one of the founders of the Institute for Psychological Research and Psychotherapy in Munich (today, Academy for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy); he was also a lecturer and teaching analyst, and had his own psychotherapeutic practice. In this, his best-known work, Riemann develops his thesis that anxiety is human and that by increasing our awareness of our own problems we can better understand ourselves and those around us. Individual chapters examine how our problems manifest themselves as various fears: of commitment (the schizoid personalities), of self-becoming (the depressive personalities), of change (the compulsive personalities), and of necessity (the hysteric personalities). Translated into English by Greta Dunn. Distributed in the U.S. by ISBS.
