The intent of this two-volume encyclopedia is to present accurate, thorough, and up-to-date information on antisemitism in an unbiased manner. Intended for a general audience, high school level and above, its aim is not to tell readers how to feel about the subject but rather to honestly present the facts about this prejudice. In his introduction, Levy (history, U. of Illinois, Chicago) explains the difficulty of conveniently defining antisemitism and its target, the Jews Jews [from Judah], traditionally, descendants of Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, whose tribe, with that of his half brother Benjamin, made up the kingdom of Judah; historically, members of the worldwide community of adherents to Judaism. , and describes the text's inclusion of a wide array of targets of antisemitism.
