Irganox antioxidants are high-molecular-weight hindered phenolics that provide long-term oxidative and thermal stability. Irganox 1010 and Irganox 1076 have good compatibility with polyolefins and styrenics and are FDA-regulated in numerous applications. Irganox MD-1024 is a metal deactivator and all-purpose antioxidant. Irganox 1035, 1010 and MD-1024 are offered for wire and cable.

Irganox MD-1024 is recommended for countering the detrimental effects of copper and other metals, which can cause discoloration and loss of physical properties in polymers. Product is said to extend the life of PP, HDPE HDPE

Irganox B-225 and Irganox B-215 are a class of low-volatility, thermally and hydrolysis-resistant additive blends reportedly offering excellent process and long-term stability in polyolefins.

Concentrates containing antioxidants, heat and light stabilizers, and lubricants can be supplied in PS, polyolefins and most other thermoplastics.

GE SPECIALTY CHEMICALS

Weston polymer additives include a variety of liquid and solid organic phosphite compounds that function as hydroperoxide decomposers, metal-complexing agents, and antioxidants. When used with primary antioxidants, these materials offer increased resistance to heat, light and oxidation. Weston 619 distearyl pentaerythritol diphosphite is said to significantly reduce discoloration tendencies of polyolefins and provide improved molecular-weight control.

Ultranox 626, a pentaerythritol diphosphite, is a hydrolytically stable, high-performance secondary antioxidant. Product offers optimum processing stability (color and melt flow), long-term aging, uv stability and cost-performance for PP, HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE LLDPE Linear Low Density Polyethylene , HIPS, ABS, PET and other polymers.

Sandostab P-EPQ is a broadly FDA-approved high-molecular-weight phosphonite (with excellent migration characteristics) that is stable to 662 F and especially soluble and compatible in polyolefin resins with very low densities. It synergizes with both sulfur and phenolic antioxidants, and in highly filled applications is not deactivated by fillers. Especially suited for low-water carry-over applications and in clarified polyolefin resins requiring long-term retention of clarity and low haze. Used in all polyolefins--linear-low-density, low-density, and high-density polyethylene, polyproylene and polybutene-1; styrenics (crystal, HIPS, ABS), polycarbonate, polyester, poly 4-methyl penterie, and engineering thermoplastic blends. Recommended for coating related applications and in coating resin systems requiting high bake residence times and temperatures over 130 C.

In engineering thermoplastics and polyolefins, Sandostab P-EPQ reportedly maintains excellent retention of physical properties of recycled resin and extends uv stability. It is further said to inhibit "burnout Burnout

Isonox 129 is a high-performance hindered phenolic crystalline antioxidant, which can provide process stability in polyolefins and styrenics. It has broad FDA approval for indirect food contact.

UNIROYAL CHEMICAL, CO., INC.

Naugard line of antioxidants includes hindered phenolics and bisphenolics, secondary amines, and phosphites. Phenolics such as Naugard BHT, Naugard 76 and Naugard 10 are used in polyolefins, HIPS, ABS, etc. Naugard 445, a white nonstaining secondary amine, is used in ABS, polyolefins, nylon 6 and polyether polyols. Wytox 312 and Nangard P are general-purpose phosphites. Naugard 524 high-performance solid phosphite and phenolic/phosphite blends such as Naugard 492 stabilize PP, PE, HIPS, and ABS.

Also available is Naugard XL-1, a high-molecular-weight phenolic antioxidant and metal deactivator. It is reported to be the only FDA-approved product that provides both antioxidant and metal-deactivator stabilization.

Hindered phenols include Nauga-white, a general-purpose product recommended for ABS; Naugard SP, an economical nondiscoloring, nonstaining product for polyolefins and HIPS; and Naugard 529, an FDA-approved liquid used in a variety of applications, especially in olefins and styrenes.
