This book examines the antimicrobial, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic activity of lactoferrin (LF), a protein found in mammal milk, and of lactoferricin (LFCIN), an N-terminal pepsin-derived peptide fragment of LF. The selective activity demonstrated by LF and LFCIN towards tumor cell membranes is also discussed. Color illustrations are included. Jenssen is affiliated with the Center for Microbial Diseases and Immunity Research at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.
