AntiCancer Inc. develops first in vivo cancer therapeutic gene screen, a major step in speeding development of cancer gene therapy.

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1994--AntiCancer Inc. Thursday announced the first patient-like animal model of human cancer that can be used to discover, evaluate and develop genes for cancer therapy.

Dr. Andrew Perry of AntiCancer said: ``We feel this gene discovery model is a tremendous breakthrough. Up until now, gene therapy has suffered from the lack of an animal model to reliably evaluate effectiveness of this cancer therapy. Our new animal model will be a major cost savings to anyone involved in gene-therapy research and should lead to faster development of new treatments for cancer.''

AntiCancer calls this new model MetaMouse. The model uses special immune-deficient mice transplanted with human tumors to replicate the metastatic Metastatic

``MetaMouse models have been developed for all the major human cancers. MetaMouse puts cancer gene-therapy discovery and development on a rational basis. With the MetaMouse models for each cancer type, candidate cancer therapeutic genes can be tested against the primary tumor primary tumor A neoplasm which, in clinical parlance, is regarded as malignant, arising in one site and capable of giving rise to metastatic or secondary tumors.
