Anti-war protesters expected.ANTI-WAR protesters are expected to hold a demonstration outside the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel tomorrow as arms dealers gather for the Aerolink Wales exhibition. The sixth year of the exhibition, which was held in Sophia Gardens Sophia Gardens is a sporting venue on the west bank of the River Taff in Cardiff, one mile north of Cardiff Arms Park and is named after Sophia Rawdon-Hastings. Daughter of the 1st Marquess of Hastings and wife to the 2nd Marquess of Bute, Sophia Rawdon-Hastings was concerned to in 2008, has been billed by organisers as "the UK's premier aerospace opportunities event". But members of the Campaign Against Arms Trade Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) is a UK-based organisation which campaigns for an end to the international arms trade. It was founded in 1974 by a group of organisations who were concerned about the growth in the arms trade following the 1973 Arab-Israeli War. (CAAT CAAT Campaign Against Arms Trade (UK) CAAT Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health) CAAT College of Applied Arts and Technology ) and the Cardiff Anarchists Network have spoken out against the exhibition, which will be attended by major players in the defence industry.. A spokeswoman for CAAT said: "Aerolink Wales likes to pose as a event aimed at supporting industry, innovation and employment. "It's only when you look closer that you find companies classifying themselves as in the 'defence sector'. "We prefer a more straightforward description - these companies make and sell deadly weapons systems and components. Staff at the Vale of Glamorgan Hotel & Spa confirmed the hotel was stepping up its security ahead of tomorrow's event.. |
