Anthra Pharmaceuticals announces development agreement with Schering AG, Germany.


PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 1995--Anthra Pharmaceuticals Inc. announced today the signing of worldwide research and development, stock purchase, and license agreements between Anthra and Schering AG, Germany and its U.S. affiliate, Schering Berlin Venture Corp.

The agreements involve Anthra's lead product, AD 32, which is a novel, highly-lipophilic and well-tolerated anthracycline anthracycline /an·thra·cy·cline/ (-si´klen) a class of antineoplastic antibiotics produced by Streptomyces peucetius and S. coeruleorubidus, including daunomycin and doxorubicin.  in Phase III Noun 1. phase III - a large clinical trial of a treatment or drug that in phase I and phase II has been shown to be efficacious with tolerable side effects; after successful conclusion of these clinical trials it will receive formal approval from the FDA  clinical studies in the U.S. for the treatment of a range of urologic and oncologic on·col·o·gy

Under the license and research and development agreements, Schering AG, Germany will provide a majority of funding for the development of a variety of urologic and oncologic indications involving AD 32. Schering AG, Germany will also make payments on the achievement of certain development milestones and will pay royalties on worldwide sales of AD 32. Schering AG, Germany will retain exclusive, worldwide marketing rights on AD 32.
