NEW YORK -- Anthony G. Viscogliosi, Chairman & CEO of Small Bone Innovations, LLC (SBI), will address executives attending the Investment in Innovation: A Preview of Early-Stage Medical Technology Companies conference in Dallas next month. The conference is organized by Medtech Insight and hosted by The Westin Copley Place in Boston, Mass., October 10-11.

During the past year, SBI acquired and has integrated four orthopedic implant companies and two licensed biotechnologies in creating a company focused on small bone and joint reconstruction and trauma from the fingers to the shoulder, and from the toes to below the knee joint.

SBI has created five business units: Arthroplasty, Internal Fixation, External Fixation, Tissue Technology, and International. For the most part, the brand names of the acquired companies, such as those of Avanta Orthopaedics, Inc.; Fixano, S.A.S.; Xtremi-T, LLC; and Envision Manufacturing, Inc., are now known as "SBI" products.

Mr.Viscogliosi says: "Our objective is to develop with surgeons those products that have the greatest impact on improving patient care. SBI is already marketing 42 different product systems across a spectrum of small bone and joint indications. Of a further 20 developmental products, we have received FDA 510(k) pre-market clearances for our ReFIX(TM) line of bioresorbable pins and screws, the SBI Universal Hand System(TM), a modular internal fixation set, and a new distal radius plating system."

In addition, SBI is also marketing the Artelon(R) CMC-I Spacer, for basal thumb osteoarthritis, under a license from Artimplant AB of Sweden. "There is extensive interest in the spacer due to its tissue-sparing qualities and the fact that it avoids removal of the trapezial bone, thereby restoring function as well as relieving pain. This technology encapsulates everything that SBI stands for," Viscogliosi said.

SBI was founded in 2004 by Viscogliosi Bros. LLC., (VB), the New York-based merchant banking firm that specializes in the musculoskeletal/orthopedic sector. VB created SBI as the first company to focus purely on small bone and joint science.

By integrating established companies and professionals in the field, SBI today offers a broad, clinically proven portfolio of products and technology to treat trauma and diseases in small bones and joints.
