As a medical specialty society it was established in 1949 by A.B. Baker of the University of Minnesota to advance the art and science of neurology, and thereby promote the best established the Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum in 2003 to empower neurologists to advocate on behalf of their patients for sensible health care reforms on local, regional and national levels. Participants are selected based on their leadership potential and their passion for patient and professional advocacy. The 2004 forum prepared 30 neurologists from 16 states and three countries to serve as advocates for vital local, state and federal neurology issues.
