Curator John Szarkowski John Szarkowski (December 18, 1925 – July 7, 2007) was an influential photographer, curator, historian, and critic. From 1962 to 1991 Szarkowski was the Director of Photography at New York's Museum of Modern Art. , director emeritus e·mer·i·tus adj. Retired but retaining an honorary title corresponding to that held immediately before retirement: a professor emeritus. n. pl. of the photo department at New York's MOMA Moma (mō`mä), town, E central Mozambique. It is important mainly as a harbor for the export of tropical produce. , promises to focus on Adams's early contributions to a distinctly American brand of modernism.
