Variant of chippy. in Middlesbrough. G's Golden Chippie has opened in Otterburn Gardens off Virginia Gardens in Acklam. Helen's Fish Bar in its former incarnation has been taken over and completely refurbished with new frying ranges, all new decor and a new menu. We have eaten at the other G's Chippie on Parliament Road in central Middlesbrough so we were keen to see if the high standard set by that shop was maintained by their second outlet. We decided to test this by one of us having cod and the other having haddock - both large, of course - with their home-made curry sauce Noun 1. curry sauce - allemande sauce with curry powder and coconut milk instead of stock sauce - flavorful relish or dressing or topping served as an accompaniment to food . There was an opening offer on large fish and chips with any sauce for pounds 3.99 instead of pounds 5.60 for the cod and pounds 5.70 for the haddock, which we thought was a great deal. Everything is cooked in vegetable oil and I had the haddock, which was cooked to order and was absolutely delicious. The better half had the cod, which was also really good. The chips were crispy on the outside but soft and fluffy inside, while the curry sauce was very authentic. They had a number of special opening offers which also included a smaller version of our order for pounds 2.99. Or there was a fish cake, cheese savoury of fish pattie with chips for pounds 1.99 or pie chips peas or gravy for pounds 1.99, or a free can of pop with any chip butty butty Noun pl -ties Chiefly N English dialect a sandwich: a jam butty [from buttered (bread)] Noun 1. . The main menu includes all the usual offerings including a number of fried to order items, a selection of burgers and meat pies - and you can also have a salad with your meal. Plus there's a children's menu with sausage, cod bites, savouries and chicken nuggets. G's Chippie has certainly not dropped the really high standard set in its first shop. This new venture is just as good ... now I just need them to open one nearer to where I live so I don't have to travel so far. OUR ORDER OUR ORDER Large cod and chips with curry sauce: pounds 3.99 (normally pounds 5.60) Large haddock and chips with curry sauce: pounds 3.99 (normally pounds 5.70) Total: pounds 7.98 (normally pounds 11.30) Verdict: **** |
