Another earthquake, measuring 7.3 on Richter scale, hits Indonesia.

Jakarta, Oct 24(ANI): Several parts of Indonesia were jolted on Saturday by a strong earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale Richter scale (rĭk`tər), measure of the magnitude of seismic waves from an earthquake, devised in 1935 by the American seismologist Charles F. Richter (1900–1985). .

No damage to life has been reported so far. However, taking preventive measures to avoid any untoward incident, the Indonesian Government issued a tsunami alert to its citizens.

, the quake was centered in the Banda Sea Banda Sea (băn`də, bän`dä), section of the Pacific Ocean, c.600 mi (970 km) long and c.300 mi (480 km) wide, E Indonesia, outlined by the South Molucca islands. The deepest point is c.24,000 ft (7,300 m). , which is around 222 kilometers northwest of Saumlaki in Indonesia's Tanimbar Islands.

On Friday, a quake measuring 6 on Richter scale had struck Indonesia's Papua province on the island of New Guinea, while a 7.6-magnitude quake had struck the Sumatra Island on September 30.

More than 1,150 people have lost their lives due to earthquakes in Indonesia over the past one-month. (ANI)
