Another crown for Algonquin; Hesek still unbeaten for the Tomahawks.

Byline: Kevin O'Malley

NORTHBORO - The top-ranked and defending Division 1 state champion Algonquin Tomahawks clinched the Mid-Wach A crown for the second consecutive season with a 10-6 victory over Milford yesterday.

"That means a lot to us," Tomahawk tomahawk [from an Algonquian dialect of Virginia], hatchet generally used by Native North Americans as a hand weapon and as a missile. The earliest tomahawks were made of stone, with one edge or two edges sharpened (sometimes the stone was globe shaped).  coach Neil Burke said. "We think our league is one of the best leagues in the state."

Tomahawk ace Neil Hesek remained undefeated on the season, giving up four runs (three earned) over 5-1/3 innings INNINGS, estates. Lands gained from the sea by draining. Cunn. L. Hesek hit the proverbial wall in the sixth, giving up a hit and issuing three walks before giving way to Robbie Nicholas with one out and the bases loaded. Nicholas allowed all three inherited runners In baseball statistics, inherited runners, or inherited baserunners, are the runners on base when a relief pitcher enters the game. "Neil got a little tired, and we let them back in the game a little bit," Burke said. "That was our worst inning all year."

Algonquin added three insurance runs on four hits in the bottom half to give Nicholas a four-run lead going into the final inning.

Milford (8-9) must now win two of its final three games to qualify for the postseason. The Scarlet Hawks face Hopedale today before closing out their regular season with two games in the MetroWest Tournament.

"We've got to take them one at a time," Milford coach Steve Manguso said.

All nine Algonquin starters had at least one hit, led by John McKenna John McKenna (1855 – March 1936) was an Irish self-made businessman and former rugby player, who was the first manager of Liverpool.

Algonquin got on Milford starter Greg Lewis Gregory Alan Lewis, Jr. (born February 12, 1980 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American football wide receiver in the NFL currently with the Philadelphia Eagles. Nicholas came around to score after reaching on a one-out single to right. He stole second, took third on a single to right by Teggart and scored on a double-steal attempt during which Teggart was thrown out at second.

Henningson scored from first on a double by McKenna after reaching base with a two-out walk.

Algonquin added another run in the second to chase Lewis. Dan Solis started things off with a leadoff single to right, took second on a wild pitch and stole third. After Hesek walked to put runners on the corners, Brown came through with a sacrifice fly to left to bring in Solis and end Lewis' day.

Matt Ward relieved Lewis, inducing back-to-back flyouts to center field to end the threat.

Ward didn't get through the third inning, however, as the first four batters he faced reached base, prompting Manguso to bring in Barry Fitzgibbon.

Teggart reached on an infield error to start the inning, stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored on a single to right by Henningson, who took second on a passed ball and scored on McKenna's single up the middle.

Zach Siska brought McKenna home with a double down the left field line to end Ward's day. Fitzgibbon struck out the first two batters he faced and, after issuing a free pass to Brown, fanned Reddington to end the rally.
