Another council strike next month.

THOUSANDS of North Wales North Wales (known in some archaic texts as Northgalis) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales, bordered to the south by Mid Wales and to the east by England.  council workers are to stage another strike over pay, union leaders announced yesterday.

Staff ranging from refuse collectors to school assistants will walk out on August 14, threatening huge disruption to council services.

A third strike will be held in September and the workers are also set to launch a campaign of selective industrial action.

Officials from Unison unison, in music, tones identical in pitch produced by two or more parts or voices. In popular usage a vocal composition is said to be sung in unison even though some of the voices are separated from others by the interval of an octave. , the Transport and General Workers Union and the GMB GMB (in Britain) General, Municipal and Boilermakers (Trade Union) , representing 1.2m council workers in Britain, decided on the fresh industrial action at a meeting in London yesterday.

North Wales T&G organiser Tom Jones said last night: ``The reaction to this week's action was very positive. We believe the time has come to take a stand against low, unfair and unequal pay.''

Unions are seeking a pay rise of 6pc and have rejected the employers' offer of a 3pc rise.

Heather Wakefield of Unison said: ``In the face of the employers' refusal to reopen talks we are escalating our campaign of industrial action.

``It will be a disaster if the employers and the Government take off on their summer holidays and leave in their wake chaos on this huge scale in local government.''
