 Schools Chancellor Joel Klein Joel I. Klein is Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, the largest public school system in the United States with over 1.1 million students in over 1,420 schools.  announced the plans to open "The Young Women's Leadership School, Queens Campus" at a press conference this morning.

The school is a replication of the highly successful Young Women's Leadership School of East Harlem, which opened nearly ten years ago and serves grades 7-12. Last fall, that school was replicated when The Young Women's Leadership Foundation opened the city's second all-girls school in the Bronx. The Bronx Campus of The Young Women's Leadership School is running successfully and is in high demand.

In September, TYWLS TYWLS The Young Women's Leadership School (East Harlem, New York) , Queens Campus will open with 75 students in the seventh grade. Over the next six years this school will serve 450 girls in grades 7-12. The school will provide a complete college preparatory curriculum enabling the girls to become leaders in school and in their communities. None of The Young Women's Leadership Schools are gifted programs, however, the culture and expectation is that all graduates of TYWLS will attend and graduate from college.

 Foundation will partner with the Principal and teachers of TYWLS, Queens Campus to enhance the educational experience of students and staff. The Young Women's Leadership Foundation staff will support partnerships to provide students with after school and summer programs. Young Women's Leadership Foundation also has schools in Philadelphia and Chicago and TYWLS, Queens Campus students and staff will participate in conferences and student exchanges with their sisters across the city and the country.

Ann Rubenstein Tisch is the President of The Young Women's Leadership Foundation. She was instrumental in starting the national single-sex public school movement, when she opened the East Harlem school nearly ten years ago. Tisch said today, "We are excited to offer even more NYC girls the choice of a top quality, college-prep, single-sex environment and we are pleased to partner once again with the DOE on what we know will be our third successful NYC public school."
