Another Record-Breaking Year for Mom on AT&T Network as Company Projects 137 Million Calls on Sunday, May 12.


BASKING RIDGE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 8, 1996--AT&T projects a record-breaking 137 million calls on its Worldwide Intelligent Network this Mother's Day -- once more topping Christmas and Father's Day as AT&T's busiest calling holiday.

Here are some other Mother's Day statistics, calling and gift tips:

-- Mother's Day is the number one holiday to call a loved one by a wide margin, racking up 9 million more calls than Christmas Day in 1995. Calling volumes for other top calling holidays in 1995: Christmas Day, 117.7 million; Father's Day, 107.4 million; Christmas Eve Day, 107.2 million; Easter Sunday, 91.7 million and Thanksgiving Thanksgiving

-- AT&T's 1996 projected volume for Mother's Day calling is about 50 percent more than a typical Sunday volume of 90 million. But it's about 30 percent less than a typical business day calling volume of 200 million.

-- The busiest day in network history was November 27, 1995 -- the Monday after Thanksgiving -- with 236.6 million calls.

-- This year's Mother's Day calling projection of 137 million is up 8 percent from last year's 126.6 million calls. The 1996 figure is a 70-percent increase from the 74.3 million Mother's Day calls placed in 1989.
