SuSE (www.suse.com) has been a commercial Linux developer and distributor since 1992, and is one of the oldest international Linux companies. It has offices in Oakland, California, as well as in Germany, the U.K., and the Czech Republic and in the U.S. The new release of SuSE Linux 6.3 offers users a wealth of new software, including 230 new programs and demos, 180 updated packages, and the Computone drivers.

"Computone is delighted that our drivers are included in the new SuSE 6.3," Pickerign said, "and to continually be a partner to the leaders of the Linux industry. Like SuSE, Computone is a long-time strategic ally and partner to Linux and Open Source solution vendors."

Computone's Pickerign said inclusion of the drivers lets users of SuSE (and Red Hat) install hardware, connect to the Internet, and control devices using IntelliPort products immediately.

"Drivers included in the Linux kernel are extremely reliable, and are updated with the operating system to provide complete compatibility with Computone products," he said. "Computone is known for `being Linux before Linux was cool'," he said. "We value our relationships in the Linux community and our role in the Open Source solution."

Pickerign said along with being included in the new releases of SuSE and Red Hat, Computone is "very active" in the Linux community. He said the company recently-concluded a 13-city Open Linux tour in the U.S. and Canada as part of its alliance with Caldera(R), and, at COMDEX The former, premier computer trade show in the U.S. Although it grew into an end user event, it was originally created for dealers and distributors (it was the COMputer Dealers EXposition).  last month in Las Vegas, had introduced additional support for Linux with new software device drivers for IntelliPort II products incorporated into the Linux kernel source code base.

"Being part of the Linux community and being chosen as a partner and ally of industry leaders like SuSE, Red Hat and Caldera recognizes our long-standing role and commitment to promoting Open Source solutions now and into the future," Pickerign said.
