Mass Storage Technical Committee to Host Next Conference April 13th through April 16th The NASA Goddard Space Flight Center will hold its 12th Conference on Mass Storage Systems and Technologies, in cooperation with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Not to be confused with the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE). The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers or IEEE (pronounced as eye-triple-e (IEEE) Mass Storage Systems Technical Committee's 21st Conference, at the University of Maryland's University College in Adelphi, Md. The theme of this conference is the "Long-term Stewardship stewardship the occupation of being a steward or custodian. Referring to animals it implies the caring sort of relationship based on an acceptance of the need to include the rights of animals in overall plans to maintain financial viability. of Globally Distributed Storage Storing data in multiple computers or in computers that are geographically dispersed. This was an early term for storage that evolved into SANs and storage virtualization. See SAN and storage virtualization. " and will feature participation by over 50 speakers from 12 countries. "The conference will combine technical papers, posters, and a vendor exposition in a unique forum tailored for users, designers, managers, and vendors of large-scale storage systems and technologies," states Ben Kobler, Conference and Program Committee chairman. "The deployment of large, globally-distributed mass storage systems, each holding billions of objects will soon be common-place, and this conference will examine solutions to problems of global access and delivery." The 4-day conference will examine the issues of information preservation, stewardship, performance, infrastructure resources, and file systems through presentations, tutorials, and a panel discussion. A hallmark of these conferences has been a "Round Table on Emerging Technologies" and this meeting will carry on the tradition of having a panel of experts discussing promising new technologies. In addition, a vendor session will provide information on commercially available systems. A session on late-breaking research and development, together with a session on last-minute thoughts and ideas will also be provided. The conference will be held from April 13th through April 16th at the Inn and Conference Center of the University of Maryland's University College, 3501 University Boulevard East, Adelphi Maryland 20783.
