An outgrowth of the 1st annual The Security Summit(SM) held in San Diego July 1, 2004, The Security Network operates as a public/private partnership, with funding from member companies, individuals and state and federal agencies. It is designed to conduct itself as a highly ethical, non-partisan organization focused on the long term security interests of the industry and the country. "Our goal is to build an all-inclusive network that brings together public and private industry with the appropriate government and academic institutions," explains Kelly. It also allows member institutions to pursue grants for developing future capabilities in the San Diego area that could ultimately be deployed on a national basis." Goals and Objectives Within the broad scope of its mission, The Security Network focuses on four primary areas: --Promote the development of dual-usage security technologies needed by both public and private sectors to create effective regional security. --Operate as a national test bed resource through grants from state and federal agencies. --Promote the development and implementation of an actionable regional security plan by developing, testing and implementing new security concepts, procedures, technologies and services. --Serve as the organizer and lead sponsor of the annual The Security Summit, as well as on-going events, including Special Interest Groups (SIGs), in order to advance national effectiveness in regional security.
