Announcing Retrospect Express 4.1; Free Upgrade Includes Internet Backup, Encryption, New Device and MacOS 8.5 Support.

ORINDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1998--Dantz Development Corporation today announced Retrospect(R) Express 4.1, an important new version of the award-winning Macintosh backup software See backup program.

(tool, software) backup software - Software for doing a backup, often included as part of the operating system.

Backup software should provide ways to specify what files get backed up and to where.
.

Version 4.1 adds Internet backup, file encryption, additional device support, MacOS 8.5 support, and a bootable disaster recovery CD to Retrospect Express.

Retrospect Express 4.1 will ship December 1, 1998 to OEMs and December 8, 1998 to distributors, resellers, and end-users.

A free upgrade to version 4.1 for owners of Retrospect Express 4.0 is available at: http://www.dantz.com/upgrades_and_updates/express_updater.html.

"Despite all of the new features in Retrospect Express 4.1, we decided to make the upgrade free. It has been less than six months since we released Retrospect Express 4.0. We wanted to treat our customers well and not make them pay for another version so soon," said Craig Isaacs, vice president of Sales and Marketing at Dantz. "Version 4.0 owners may either download the upgrade for free from www.dantz.com or contact us to order the bootable disaster recovery CD for a small fee."

Built-In Internet Backup

Offsite backups can prevent data loss due to fire, theft, and other disasters. Customers who combine Internet backups with backups to traditional media can easily maintain the highest degree of security.

Retrospect Express 4.1 automates offsite backups using industry standard File Transfer Protocol A communications protocol used to transmit files without loss of data. A file transfer protocol can handle all types of files including binary files and ASCII text files. See Kermit, Zmodem and FTP.  (FTP FTP

), so customers may take advantage of the thousands of terabytes of FTP space available on corporate, government, and institutional disk farms.

Since bandwidth and space are often concerns, built-in compression can save time and money. In addition, Retrospect Express 4.1 now offers built-in encryption to provide security for backup files.

iMac Backup Solution

Retrospect Express 4.1 is an excellent solution for Apple Computer's iMac customers. Customers can back up important files today over the Internet and use new USB USB
