Annapolis National Bank to become BankAnnapolis as local focus sharpens.

ANNAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 29, 2000

Annapolis National Bank, the sole subsidiary of Annapolis National Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANNB), will officially become BankAnnapolis as of November 1, 2000.

Bank officials say the name change marks another significant step in the Bank's commitment to independent operation and will reinforce the Bank's position as the premier community bank in the Annapolis area. A new logo is in the works for the Bank as well.

BankAnnapolis President and CEO Mark H. Anders said that the new name would have absolutely no practical effect for the Bank's 10,000 customers, who can continue to use the same ATM cards, checks, credit cards, and debit cards. All branches will remain open with the same banking hours, Anders said, and all of the same Bank employees will continue to serve customers.

Although operations will be unaffected, Anders said that the name change is very much intended to send a message to BankAnnapolis customers and the local community. "We have no national aspirations, so the 'National' is coming out of our name," he said. "We're here to serve this community, we're here to stay, and our goal is to be the best community bank in Annapolis. Our new name and logo will reflect that commitment."

BankAnnapolis Chairman Richard M. Lerner said that the name change by no means indicates that a sale or merger of the Bank is forthcoming. "We have no desire or intention to get blended into a gigantic network of banks controlled from out of state," he said. "Indeed, we're changing our name for exactly the opposite reason - to emphasize our local roots and our commitment to the Annapolis community."

Anders said that the new BankAnnapolis name is further evidence of the Bank's renewed focus on its local market. He said that other signals of this commitment include the Bank's recent application for a state charter, the impending opening of a new headquarters building opposite the Annapolis Mall, and the election to the Bank's board of directors in May of two prominent local civic and business leaders.

"There's a tremendous amount of positive change going on for us right now," Anders said, "and all of it is defined by our determination to provide the best community banking services available for the people and businesses of Annapolis. The new name is another milestone in that quest."
