Ann McDaniel Elected Vice President-Human Resources of The Washington Post Company.

Ann McDaniel has been elected vice president-human resources of The Washington Post Company (NYSE:WPO), it was announced today. McDaniel, 45, had been senior director of human resources for the company since January 2001. She succeeds Beverly R. Keil, who is retiring.

In addition to her human resources responsibilities, McDaniel will oversee The Gazette, a Washington Post Company subsidiary that publishes community newspapers in Maryland, and Post Newsweek Tech Media Group, which publishes trade periodicals and presents trade shows for government and business technology markets.

Before joining the corporate office of The Washington Post Company, McDaniel held various editorial positions at Newsweek for 17 years. She was named managing editor of Newsweek in November 1998. Prior to that she had served as an assistant managing editor since December 1995, guiding the magazine's overall direction. Additionally, as Washington bureau chief since January 1997, McDaniel directed Newsweek's team of D.C.-based national-affairs reporters, who cover the White House, Pentagon, State Department, and other areas.

McDaniel also had served as Newsweek's chief of correspondents since February 1993. Previously, she covered the Bush Administration as White House correspondent from 1998 to 1992. She first joined the magazine as Washington correspondent in January 1984 to report on legal issues.

Prior to joining Newsweek, McDaniel worked as a general assignment reporter and later as Washington correspondent for the Dallas Times Herald.

She was the recipient of a Ford Foundation Fellowship to study law and in June 1983 completed a Master of Studies in Law degree at Yale Law School. She is an alumna of Vanderbilt University.
