Ann Kaesermann.Ann Kaesermann describes her psychic moment: Working on a 2005 merger, she was waiting for proxy comments from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and expecting a long letter with hundreds of questions. One night she dreamed the letter was only three pages long with six questions. A week later, the letter arrived--three pages long, with six questions. "My one and only psychic moment was guessing SEC letters, not lottery ticket numbers!" Title | Vice President and Controller. Company | Hilcorp Energy Co., an oil-and gas-exploration and production firm in Houston. Born | Montgomery, Ala., August 1958. Spouse | Ronald, married for 15 years. Board of Directors | Past director and treasurer of South Texas Animal Adoption Resource, a nonprofit dog rescue. FEI Chapter | National and Houston Chapter member since 2001; serve on the Membership Committee; active with the Committee on Private Companies Policy subcommittee. Leisure Pursuits | love to read. I'll go through one to three books a month as well as my monthly subscriptions to National Geographic and Smithsonian magazine. I also enjoy my regular walks with my dog Harley, a 100-pound rescue Harlequin Great Dane. Time Management | 1 have to be organized, setting up files or even just orderly stacks of task-specific information. I am also a big believer in delegating tasks. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Stress Management | Going to the gym everyday at lunchtime to either lift weights or attend a spinning class keeps my mind cleared. I return to the office with a renewed outlook and energy to tackle the problems of the day. Recent Reads | I love biographies where I gain strength and insight from the struggles others have taken. Some of the standouts have been Lee lacocca, Carly Fiorina and Michael Durant (the movie, "Black Hawk Down," was based on the events of the Somalia raid and Durant's 11 days of capture and survival). If I could, I'd Spend One Hour With | Bear Bryant, the former head football coach of the University of Alabama. He had the capacity to inspire young men to push through pain and adversity while focusing on winning in life as well as on the field. Best Advice | Persevere, keep showing up and pressing forward. Favorite Job | Helping to turn around Bellwether Exploration. I had responsibility for quarterly conference calls and investor speeches and handled accounting, treasury, finance, forecasting, investor relations and all interaction with the audit committee. I was thrust into new and expanded responsibilities. It was very stressful, but very rewarding and very exciting. Worst Job | I had a brief stint in my early career as a revenue accountant that was quite unbearable. It gives me great respect and insight into the revenue accountants who work for me now! Most Challenging Job | While at Bellwether/Mission a succession of five CEOs and CFOs came and went between 2001 and 2004. Having to "re-prove" yourself time and time again and getting used to new protocols was a challenge to maintain for so long. But in the end, I gained a lot of confidence in my abilities and learned to work through many diverse situations. Email: akaesermann@hilcorp.com. --Edited by Marian Raab |
