During World War II, Mrs. Troy served on the Ration Board in Oakham. Because she was employed by Oakham's independent telephone company, Conant & Parker Telephone, prior to her marriage, she returned to work there in the 50's to manage the transfer of its system to dial when the company purchased by New England telephone Verizon New England, Inc., formerly New England Telephone & Telegraph Co., is a Bell Operating Company that serves the majority of New England. It is an operating unit of Verizon Communications. New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. as a telephone operator in Worcester office until her retirement in 1980. After her retirement, she tutored in the Special Education program at Oakham Center School for several years while caring for her mother, who died in 2000 at the age of 103. Her home was a popular stop for over 100 trick or treaters from the OCS OCS - Object Compatibility Standard each Halloween until 2003. She was a member Christ Church, Episcopal, South Barre. She taught Sunday school, sang soprano in the church choir, and was the treasurer of the Episcopal Women for 20 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and served on the Board of the Oakham Council on Aging. Ann will be remembered for her cheerful personality, sparkling wit, and constancy con·stan·cy n. 1.
