Anish Kapoor.

KUNSTHAUS BREGENZ Bregenz (brā`gĕnts), city (1991 pop. 26,775), capital of Vorarlberg province, extreme W Austria, on Lake Constance (Bodensee). It is a lake port with winter and summer sports facilities and is the site of a well-known summer arts festival. Bregenz has industries that manufacture textiles, electrical goods, and machinery.

"It will be up in the air until the last minute," says Anish Kapoor of the contents of his September show, organized by Kunsthaus director Eckhard Schneider. This would be nerve-racking for some, particularly given work known for both immaculate finish and theatrical scale, but Kapoor seems calmly airy. One definite inclusion, to be realized in situ, sounds unlike the Kapoor I know: a chest-high motorized block of steel moving slowly through a mountain of red grease. Another possibility is a large hollowed-out granite egg yielding an ephemeral Temporary. Fleeting. Transitory. visual ghost within the stone. "Working with the material to make the immaterial, working with the immaterial to make the physical: In Bregenz we're hoping to bring these things together," Kapoor says. Sept. 27-Nov, 16.--DF
