A PROMINENT animal rights campaigner has described as "an amazing lady" after winning a national award.

Judi Hewitt, from Rhyl, has been named as Best Local Campaigner by Europe's largest campaigning vegetarian organisation, Viva!.

She was described by Viva! founder Juliet Gellatley Juliet Gellatley is a British writer and animal rights activist. She is the founder and director of Viva! and former director of the Vegetarian Society. She is also one of the founding directors of The Vegetarian and Vegan Foundation [1] along with Tony Benn and Tony  as "a driving force for animal protection in North Wales".

Mrs Hewitt, founder of Wales Against Animal Cruelty, was involved in a Viva! campaign to stop the selling of live turtles in China. She is also an active anti-hunt protester and is organising opposition to an anti-TB badger cull cull
