PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 2002

Animal Friends, Inc.

Animal Friends' Newly Redesigned Web Site Will Allow Them to Place

More Animals With the Right Owners; www.animal-friends.org

Animal Friends, Inc., Pittsburgh's only no-kill shelter No-kill Shelters are a type of animal shelter which do not kill the animals they house. The most widely accepted definition of a no-kill shelter is a place where all adoptable and treatable animals are saved. , had its Web site redesigned to actively promote an up-to-date list of animals available for adoption and market themselves as a professional organization.

The Web site is a comprehensive online resource providing adoption information (including photos and bios of pets currently available for adoption), answers to pet-related questions, programs for the community, and information about donations. "While finding new homes for the pets in our care is certainly a priority for us, Animal Friends is so much more than just an adoption facility." said Kathleen Beaver beaver, either of two large aquatic rodents, Castor fiber and Castor canadensis, known for their engineering feats. They were once widespread in N and central Eurasia except E Siberia, and in North America from the arctic tree line to the S United , Director of Marketing. "We are a full-service community resource center and this new Web site drives that point home."

Approximately 15,000 adoptable animals are euthanized each year in the Pittsburgh area. Animal Friends hopes to reduce the number of adoptable pets euthanized each year at area shelters and animal control facilities by increasing placements and educating the public about alternatives and resources available to them if they are no longer able to care for their pets. The organization also anticipates an increase in volunteer interest and requests for their many community outreach programs including Pet Assisted Therapy, Obedience OBEDIENCE. Wall-to-Wall Studios, a Strip District-based graphic design and interactive communications firm, created the new logo/identity, Annual Report and Web site for Animal Friends. NuRelm E-Business Software supplied the content management system for the Web site which is used by the Animal Friends staff to make real-time updates. Bernard Uy, a partner at Wall-to-Wall Studios remarked, "We have been pleased to be associated with a great organization such as Animal Friends over the years. And our staff was very excited when we were asked to help to develop their Web site. With NuRelm's assistance, we were able to provide Kathleen and her staff a very user-friendly system without having to compromise the design. It's wonderful to see the site being used as it was intended: with frequent updates."

Kathleen Beaver stated, "With consumers increased use of the Internet we knew we had to redesign re·de·sign

. In order to ensure the maximum number of pets get placed with the right adoption process occurring, we, having no programmers on staff, need to be able to update our site in real-time." With NuContent 2.0, NuRelm's content management system, as soon as an animal is ready for adoption, or a current animal gets adopted, the site is updated to reflect this. The Web site is also used to update information about the services they offer, program information, and to answer general questions.

The Web site is already a success. Kathleen Beaver explains, "Everyone I talk to about our new Web site loves it. It looks great and contains current information." In April it generated almost 500,000 hits and over 23,000 unique visitors A count of how many different people access a Web site. For example, if a user leaves and comes back to the site five times during the measurement period, that person is counted as one unique visitor, but would count as five "user sessions. . Future plans for the Web site are to actively promote it, add more pages, add links to resources, and continually add information to make it a comprehensive online resource center.
