AngloGold Appoints Executive Officer for the Environment.

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 18, 2000

The world's biggest gold producer, South African-based AngloGold, has announced the appointment of Bob Micsak, 45, as Executive Officer for the Environment.

Micsak joins AngloGold's Executive Committee and will report directly to company Chairman and CEO Bobby Godsell.

Commenting, Godsell said, "Bob's appointment reflects the continued dedication and an increased focus on the part of AngloGold to the highest quality management of environmental, community and sustainable mining issues."

Godsell emphasized Micsak's outstanding track record in developing environmental strategies, and in permitting and managing the compliance of mining operations in environmentally sensitive and legally demanding areas. "With the vital and growing importance that these activities play in our business, AngloGold will be further increasing its efforts under Bob's leadership."

Micsak outlined several major goals for AngloGold, "The company is committed to cultivating a corporate culture that continues to improve our environmental performance, fulfils our role as a responsible corporate citizen and provides leadership in the international arena."

Gold, he said, would play a growing and essential role in the continued economic and technological development of the world's economies and AngloGold's operations had to be conducted so that important environmental and social objectives could be achieved.

Micsak previously served as Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Environmental Officer of AngloGold's North American subsidiary. He is active with the International Council on Metals and the Environment (ICME), and is a member of the boards of directors of the Gold Institute and the Colorado Mining Association. He also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Northwest Mining Association. Micsak brings a wealth of experience to his new post, having spent his working life dealing with a broad array of mining, natural resource and environmental issues.

Micsak earned a Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, where he focused his studies on resources and environmental planning. He received his law degree from the University of Colorado School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review. He graduated with honors from Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Engineering. A native of Ohio, he will continue to be based at AngloGold's offices in Greenwood Village, Colorado. Micsak lives with his wife and two sons in Littleton, Colorado.
