Prior to Arbor Realty Trust, he held leadership positions at Banque Indosuez, Chemical Bank and Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York. He holds a bachelor's degree in finance and accounting from St. Bonaventure University Students and alumni refer to the university with an affectionate nickname—"Bona's"—which originates from the school's original name, St. Bonaventure's College.
