Angling community loses one of their finest sons; ANGLING: Latest news from the local waters.

COVENTRY tackle shop owner and bait breeder Alan Lane has passed away after suffering a heart attack.

Alan was the son of former world match fishing champion Billy, a man some regard as the best angler of his era. WH Lane, Billy's father, started a tackle shop in Coventry over 100 years ago and it passed on to Billy, who died in his mid 50s.

. He ran the biggest maggot maggot: see blowfly; fly; larva.  farm in the Midlands, moving that to its current location in Claverdon.

Lanes supplies all the tackle shops in the Midlands and is widely regarded as producing the best maggots and casters in the country, something Alan was very proud of.

A keen salmon angler, he leaves a wife, two sons and three daughters. His funeral takes place at Bubbenhall, where he lived for many years, on Monday (2.00pm).

PACKINGTON SOMERS has added to its stocks on Geary's Lake with a batch of new carp in the 1lb to 5lb range, where dead maggot fished in conjunction with the Method to the middle stumps is producing fish. On Little Gearys a stocking of new F1s seems to have livened up all the other species with pole and maggot working even in really cold conditions for bags to 20lb. The day ticket rate is reduced between now and the end of February to pounds 4.50 (adults) and pounds 3.50 (concessions).

COVENTRY'S No1 big zander ace Robert Moreton has been back in action again at Coombe Abbey Coombe Abbey is an hotel in Warwickshire, England which has been developed from an historic country house. The house is classified as a Grade I listed building. The house's original grounds are now a country park known as Coombe Country Park  Lake, this time fooling a superb fish going 14lb 6oz.

The guide is driven by Google's mapping solution and the plan is to make it the most comprehensive UK venue listing - and it's free to use.
