ON the trout front, Ravensthorpe has hit a good patch with an average of 5.76 and a best rainbow going 6lb 12oz.

The best tactic has been to fish hard on the bottom with minkies and cat's whiskers See metal whiskers.  both scoring well. With the weed beds now dieing back form the platforms, bank fishing is improving fast and fry patters with intermediate lines are well worth a go.

The reservoir is now closed for pike fishing and trout fishing is now bank only until December 31st, with the Coton Bank, platforms 1-6 and the dam wall all recommended.

Over at Pitsford the annual Fur and Feather was won by Earls Barton angler Mark Haycock, who fished a sunk link in conjunction with a booby booby, common name for some members of the family Sulidae, large, streamlined sea birds. Tropical and subtropical members of the family are called boobies; those of northern waters are called gannets.  for four fish weighing 8lb 9oz. It's the second time he's won the event. Things have been quite tough at Pitsford but the Sailing Club, Gorse gorse: see furze.
