Angling: Macey does a conger to beach his rivals at Penarth.THE last Penarth SAC beach competition before the August break was won by Chris Macey who fished at Ranny Pool and beached a conger of 4lb 11oz. Second man Glyn Hewings caught 4lb 1oz of silver eels and Terry Hawker was third with 2lb 12oz. The junior prize went to Anthony Rowley with a catch of 2lb 12oz. Reigning club champion Ken Shove took another step towards retaining the title when he won the Gwent SAC roving competition. The Cwmbran angler caught three pouting and two rockling rock·ling n. pl. rockling or rock·lings Any of various small marine fishes of the family Gadidae, of North Atlantic coastal waters. for a weight of 1.13kg. One eel of 0.47kg put Debra Eidman in second place and Martin Jones was third with 0.34kg. Robert Hicks had a great day afloat when Rhondda Valley SAC went out of Swansea on Dave Axtell's charter boat ``Seren y Mor''. He scored a convincing win with a bag of blonde rays that included fish of 16.75lb; 18.25lb; 21lb and 22lb. Keiron Jones was next with blonde rays to 18lb. There was the usual good attendance for the Newport Sea Anglers' evening competition at Newport Docks, which was won by Debbie Eidman, from Rogerstone, with 0.97kg. Andrew Bridle was runner-up with 0.46kg and Joe Crowley third with 0.44kg. Chris Meyrick won the junior prize with 0.34kg. Sunday's match was at Cardiff and winner Rhys Wilkins weighed in 0.54kg to beat Michael Westcott with 0.54kg and Les Handy with 0.36kg. Luke Secker took the junior prize with 0.08kg. Boat specialist Gary Jenkins, of Tonyrefail, won the third round of the Carling Premier Boat Angling League fished out of Swansea. He was on `` Blue Thunder'' and boated four bass, two pollack, two dogfish dogfish, name for a number of small sharks of several different families. Best known are the spiny dogfishes (family Squalidae) and the smooth dogfishes (family Triakidae). Spiny dogfishes have two spines, one in front of each dorsal fin, and lack an anal fin. and a huss for a total of 72 points. Dai Snowden, of St Athan, finished in second place with 56 points and Dai Thomas of Thomastown was third with 47 points. Dai Thomas is now League leader with a total of 196 points. Second place is filled by defending Champion Gary Jenkins with 189 points and in third place is Mike Chadwick with 169. The King of the River competition is one of the major junior sea fishing fixtures in Wales and this year the title goes to Nathan Young, of Newport. He caught 0.44kg of eels and it was also eels for runner-up Joseph Toye, with 0.36kg, and Anthony Rowley, from Cardiff, who was third with 0.16kg. |
