Sixteen-year-old Ryan Poole, of Newport, is really doing well and his second place was his best open result to date. The Penn beachcaster put up as third prize by Anglers Supplies went to Ian Patterson, who caught a 2.10kg conger at the Gut. The 18 points he received weren't enough to make it to the top 20. The holder of the Seamaster title for 2002 will be decided at Barry in Sunday's Barry Angling Festival which is backed by Vale of Glamorgan BC and is open to any angler. The qualifier with the top bag weight on the day will be the Seamaster champion and collect the trophy and pounds 200 that goes with the title. The qualifier with the second best weight wins pounds 100 and third prize is pounds 50. The Barry Angling Festival on Sunday will be fished from 11.30am to 3.30pm along the beach from Cold Knap Cold Knap is a district of Barry in South Wales. It is a pebble beach on the coast. It regularly attracts visitors during the summer months. It is located a few miles west of the sandy beach of Barry Island. It was founded by the Romans who used it as a port. to Porthkerry, with the weigh in at Wales Airport Hotel in Port Road where the scales close at 4.45pm. The first prize is pounds 300, the second pounds 150 and the third prize pounds 75 and after that there is a lengthy prize list and also separate junior prizes. This is the first qualifier for the 2003 Seamaster competition so the top 20 anglers will open their points accounts. The cost to enter the competition is pounds 6 or pounds 2 for juniors and booking in is from 9.30am to 11am at Cold Knap. Seamaster points are on offer again in the 42nd South Wales Open Sea Angling Championship at Penarth on Sunday, October 13. Penarth SAC is organising the 10.30am to 2.30pm event and Anglers Supplies of Penarth have put up a whopping pounds 1,000 first prize. Entry costs pounds 6.50 or pounds 2.50 for juniors and the weigh in is at Penarth Conservative Club.
