Angling: Fortune favours brave at Derwent.

ANGLERS braving the conditions and willing to travel light to find the fish are still accounting for good quality trout at Derwent Reservoir, with Dean McKenna taking a fine blue of 5lb 8oz and Mr Allison landing five for 12lb.

Fly anglers are doing well with lures drifted in the wind on intermediate lines while bait anglers have had success with worm and powerbait cocktails.

Although lightly fished, Hury continued to produce quality catches with J Jack taking the week's best rainbow at 3lb 8oz.

Good numbers of fully-finned quality fish are showing up in the catches at Grassholme.

Bill Usher from Stanhope also had two fish of more than 4lb in his four-fish catch, while David Carnall and Alan Guthrie from Stanley combined resources to land three cracking fish of around 5lb each from the Witch's Hat. S Robson landed the week's best blue with a quality specimen of 4lb.

Keith Wright, fishing worm at Tower Knowe, landed a rainbow of 5lb which was this week's heaviest fish at Kielder Water.

Although many fish are still gathered at the east end of Scaling Dam, they have been harder to catch although Brenda Turnbull from Middlesbrough had the week's best rainbow at 4lb 10oz.
