Cardiff angler Allan Collett collected the pounds 300 first prize donated by Cardiff firm Glamaco Limited and added pounds 33 pool money for the heaviest fish and 20 Seamaster points after beaching a lone cod that weighed 3lb 3oz. Past Seamaster title holder and reigning Barry Festival champion Steve Chadwick moved to the top of the Seamaster points table when he took third place with a 1lb flounder that gave him pounds 133 prize money to go with his 18 points. Roy Tapper, from Marshfield, is now third in the overall placings after finishing fourth and adding 17 points to his collection by catching a flounder and a rockling weighing 14oz while regular Seamaster finalist Phil Mather is in at number two after coming fifth and taking 16 points with 12oz. The others who picked up Seamaster points were: Ivor Smith, 6oz 15; Chris Read and Mike Perrett, both 5oz 13.5 each; Tommy Davies, 4oz 12; Barry Owen, 3oz 11; Matt Nelms, 2oz 10; Mike Notley, 1.5oz nine and Nigel Evans, 1oz eight points. There was little seasonal cheer at the first of the two Penarth SAC Christmas competitions where a 1.2kg cod from Ranny Pool put Chris Garner well ahead of the field. Runner-up Paul Starling starling, any of a group of originally Old World birds that have become distributed worldwide. Starlings were brought to New York in 1890; since then the common starling (Sturnus vulgaris) has spread throughout North America. caught a flounder and a pouting weighing 0.38kg at Dock Beach; thirdman Gary Parsons caught his 0.34kg pouting at Ranny Pool. Although 56 members lined the bank of the tidal Usk at Coronation Park, single fish took the prizes in the Newport Sea Anglers Christmas competition. Winner Jason Hart caught a 440gm flounder; Richard Rogers had one of 260gm and Paul Yates came third with a 220gm flounder. The scalesman didn't have much to do at the end of the Gwent SAC competition. Rogerstone member Ivor Smith managed a winning 220gm with his rockling trio; Mike Perrett caught two rockling for 160gm and the only other catch was Neil Evans's 70gm rockling. This competition will also include a separate SAMF SAMF Société Archéologique du Midi de la France SAMF Special Air Mission Fleet SAMF Ship's Air Maintenance Facility SAMF Station Assistant Multi-Functional (London Underground) Masters qualifier, organised by Andrew Hutchings, with one in every five competitors qualifying for next November's two day national final and the chance for big money prizes at Skegness.
