Angling: ALL CHANGE!

Byline: By SILVER WILKIE

A NAIL-BITING Scottish Club Championship final ended with the Change Fly Fishers Angling Club B team taking this year's title - but only just.

The Change trio, captain Willie Leach, from Falkirk, and his two club mates Jim Crawford Jim Crawford may refer to:

Runners-up Edinburgh Trout Anglers had 23 trout, but lost out because their catch weighed in four ounces less than the victors.

So commiserations must go to the Edinburgh team who were also runners-up last year.

Martin Grantham, of the Angling Centre, Stirling, who sponsors SANA's flagship club competition along with the Daily Record, presented Change with the Championship silver salver, gold medals, a cheque for pounds 500, and three Scierra rods.

The Edinburgh Trout club's efforts were rewarded with three silver medals, a cheque for pounds 300 and three top of the range reels.

The winning Change B trio beat their big brothers from the Change A team, who were placed third with 21 trout for 46lb 5oz.

They got three bronze medals, three fly lines and a pounds 200 cheque.

For two of the victors, Jim Crawford, 41, and Jim McBride, 51, it was the second time they got their hands on the Silver Salver.

Captain Willie Leach, who will fish for Scotland, the hosts of the World Fly Fishing Championships next June, said: "It's the most prestigious event for Scottish trout anglers along with the Daily Record Champion of Champions."

The secret of the Change B team's success was constant practice on the Lake, which has been fishing its socks off.

Willie said: "The trout weren't moving on the surface, but were taking a couple of feet down.

"A fast retrieve attracted the fish which were closer to the top."
