Anglers boosted by open waters.


THE good news for reservoir anglers is that Northumbrian Water's Reservoirs will remain open during November again at a reduced rate of pounds 15, with no catch limit being enforced.

So anglers who can catch more than eight fish can keep them if they so wish.

With good stocks of trout trout: see salmon.

Edward Murray had 11 good trout on the Cat fished on an intermediate line. T Shield landed fish of 6lb 8oz and 5lb 8oz in his excellent limit bag for 26lb.

The last week of the salmon season is in full flow with local rivers carrying very welcome extra water. Fish have been running.

Reports received indicate huge quantities of fish at Redesmouth in recent days and also plenty seen from the Corbridge and Hexham areas.

Catches are being made up and down the Tyne system. Bywell has produced sport, as has the Northumbrian Anglers Federation Waters.

Private beats on the North and South Tyne have been producing some good sport to spinners and also various Shrimp Fly patterns with Red and Yellow based flies particularly good. Fishing closes on Saturday.

A reminder that Witton Castle Lakes are running Winter Competitions on December 6, 13, 20 and 27. In January the dates are 3, 10 and 17 with a Grand Final on February 7. Anglers are required to book their places in advance. Fees are pounds 25, including pounds 14 for fishing and pounds 1 registration and pounds 10 Pools. Call (01388) 488 691 for further details.
