QUEENSBURY, N.Y.--(BW HealthWire)--June 5, 2001

AngioDynamics(R), Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of E-Z-EM, Inc. (AMEX AMEX

: EZM.A and EZM.B) announced today that it will initiate marketing of its new ABSCESSION(TM)BILIARY DRAINAGE CATHETER in the United States.

Commenting on the announcement, Eammon P. Hobbs, President of AngioDynamics, said, "We are pleased to announce the introduction of ABSCESSION(TM) Biliary Drainage Catheters which expand our ABSCESSION(TM) Drainage Catheter product line to cover general drainage and biliary drainage procedures. The ABSCESSION(TM) Drainage Catheter has a multitude of features that should help make it the drainage catheter of choice for interventional practitioners. The distal tip of the catheter is manufactured with a precision process that gives it a smooth dilating taper. This design can help reduce problems with "accordion shaft" when inserting through high-resistance areas. In addition, the catheter shaft is made from an advanced proprietary material blend that provides strength while allowing the catheter to remain supple for patient comfort. The shaft has excellent memory that allows it to maintain its original form after being kinked or crushed, and it is covered with a proprietary surface to reduce friction during insertion and advancement to the drainage site.

"Large bore holes in the shaft provide excellent flow for general or biliary drainage procedures. The locking mechanism is simple and easy to use, and the design is low profile and void of sharp corners, another feature designed to help improve patient comfort," said Hobbs.

ABSCESSION(TM) BILIARY DRAINAGE CATHETERS are available in 8F through 12F diameters.
