Anger at toddler's trek for treatment; WALES.

A MAN whose two-year-old grandson Grandson (gräNsôN`), Ger. Grandsee, town (1990 pop. 2,473), Vaud canton, W Switzerland, at the southwestern end of the Lake of Neuchâtel.  had to be taken 20 miles for out-of-hours GP services is warning there could be deaths unless something is done.

Noel Hulmston's daughter, who lives in Holywell, rang out of hours service at about 3am on Monday as she was worried about the toddler, who is quasi-asthmatic.

The operators told her to take him to Wrexham Maelor Wrexham Maelor was one of six local government districts of Clwyd, North Wales, from 1974 to 1996.

It was formed from parts of the administrative counties of Denbighshire and Flintshire.
 Hospital, 20 miles away, and she could not go to Deeside Community Hospital or Glan Clwyd at Bodelwyddan.

Mr Hulmston said: "This is absolutely absurd.

Somebody could end up dead."

The youngster had been unwell for a few days and had swollen tonsils tonsils, name commonly referring to the palatine tonsils, two ovoid masses of lymphoid tissue situated on either side of the throat at the back of the tongue. .

"When we got to Wrexham he wasn't given any practical treatment, they were just advised to sponge him down.

"He was taken to his own GP the following morning and immediately prescribed pre·scribe

 antibiotics, which the doctor in Wrexham had said he did not need."

A spokesman for Flintshire Local Health Board said: "Since April 2008 a joint service called Newdoc has provided out of hours GP services in Flintshire and Wrexham.

"Newdoc has two bases - Maelor Hospital and Deeside Community Hospital. At midnight the service at Deeside closes and coverage is provided from Wrexham Maelor Hospital."

He added: "Glan Clwyd does have an out of hours service patients can go to.

On this occasion the wrong advice was given. This is regrettable and steps are being taken to ensure it does not happen again."
