Angels' Guerrero bruises right wrist

Los Angeles Angels slugger Vladimir Guerrero left Monday's game against the Red Sox with a bruised right wrist after being hit by a pitch from Boston's Josh Beckett in the first inning.

X-rays taken at Fenway Park were negative. Guerrero said, "I'm OK" before leaving the clubhouse with his wrist bandaged after Boston's 7-2 win. Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said Guerrero's return was day-to-day.

The right fielder was struck on an 0-2 pitch after Orlando Cabrera hit a one-out homer. Guerrero crouched and held his wrist as Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia came out of the dugout. Reggie Willits ran for Guerrero, who was sixth in the AL with a .364 batting average and second with 12 RBIs entering play Monday.

Plate umpire Rick Reed issued a warning to Beckett and the Angels.

"Rick Reed explained it to me," Beckett said. "Any time you give up a home run and then hit somebody they're just trying to control the game and not trying to let things get out of hand."

He said Reed agreed there was no intent to hit Guerrero.

Scioscia came out of the dugout to talk with Reed after the warning.

"I just wanted to make sure that he knew we had the right to pitch inside," Scioscia said.
