Andyne Joins Tandem Decision Support Initiative; Joint technology and marketing efforts mark evolution in long-standing relationship.

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 20, 1996--Tandem Computers Incorporated announced today that Andyne Computing Limited of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, has formally joined Tandem's Decision Support Initiative.

This partnership allows Andyne's suite of integrated decision support tools to act as a logical front-end to Tandem Integrity and Himalaya servers. Andyne is widely known for its powerful ad hoc query A non-standard inquiry. An ad hoc query is created to obtain information as the need arises. Using NonStop SQL/MP databases with Himalaya servers or merchant databases with Integrity NR servers, Andyne's products GQL and PaBLO allow for comprehensive decision support extending from transactional and multidimensional data sources to online analytical processing Online Analytical Processing, or OLAP (IPA: /ˈoʊlæp/), is an approach to quickly provide answers to analytical queries that are multidimensional in nature.  (OLAP (OnLine Analytical Processing) Decision support software that allows the user to quickly analyze information that has been summarized into multidimensional views and hierarchies. This front-to-back solution will scale and enhance technology requirements from prototype to enterprisewide deployment of the data warehouse.

GQL and PaBLO are natural choices for this initiative. "Tandem has been a long-time Andyne customer; therefore, we appreciate the products' flexibility in performing a variety of complex tasks such as ad hoc queries, push-button (electronics) push-button - A roughly fingertip-sized plastic cover attached to a spring-loaded, normally-open switch, which, when pressed, closes the switch. Typical examples are the keys on a computer or calculator keyboard and mouse buttons.  programming, and query scheduling," said Lars Rohrberg, business development manager for Tandem's DSS Business Unit.

"We believe that the openness and versatility inherent in our products are a great fit for Tandem. Tandem was Andyne's first customer, and we are excited about evolving with them and their DSS initiatives," noted Cameron Thompson, Andyne's president and chief executive officer.

Andyne's Integrated DSS system consists of GQL, a family of query and reporting software applications for accessing and managing relational data sources, and PaBLO, a powerful end-user data-access, analysis, and reporting tool for working with multidimensional summary information.

"Strong decision support tools like Andyne's are playing an increasingly dominant role in linking massive amounts of corporate data across the enterprise," said Bruce Dougherty, Tandem's vice president of Solutions Marketing. "Our technology partnership initiatives will enable Tandem to provide customers with quality solutions to meet ever-changing DSS requirements."

Andyne is a leader in the development and marketing of software with over 55,000 installations worldwide.
