ALASTAIR HUMPREYS left England aged 24 to cycle the world.

Explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes Sir Ranulph Twistleton-Wykeham-Fiennes, 3rd Baronet OBE (born 7 March 1944), usually known simply as Ranulph (Ran) Fiennes, is a British adventurer and holder of several endurance records. , the first man to cross Antarctica on foot, described the bike ride as "the first great adventure of the 21st century".

The journey took more than four years to complete.

Alastair cycled from England to South Africa, crossed the Atlantic by yacht and then cycled from South America to Alaska before crossing the Pacific by freighter and pedalling back to England from eastern Siberia.

He wrote two books about the adventure and raised funds and awareness for Hopes And Homes For Children, a charity working for orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children across the world.
