Andy Capp is a long-running British comic strip character created by Reginald Smythe, seen in the
 is starring in a national television campaign to encourage people to get fitter.

ANDY US Popular Abbreviation for Andrews AFB
 is being used by Sport England to encourage people to build 30 minutes of exercise into their daily routine.

The flat cap-wearing layabout will call on stars including soccer's Rio Ferdinand and Alan Smith to put the Everyday Sport message over. Andy himself promises to rise from the sofa and take up golf.

The campaign follows a pilot in Andy's home region the North East last year where five per cent of the population were inspired to get active.
