The Hilton brand was re-united internationally after more than 40 years in February 2006, when United States-based Hilton
 Corporation's hotel division, has been named area vice president - new projects Hilton Austin/Houston.

He reports to Ken Smith, senior vice president for Hilton Hotels Corporation's hotel division.

The Hilton Americas - Houston will contain 1,200 rooms, 90,000 square feet of meeting space and will open in November 2003.

The Hilton Austin will contain 800 rooms, 60,000 square feet of meeting space and will open in January 2004.

In his new position, Slater will manage the entire pre-opening process, which will include operation issues, as well as corporate functions. Slater will be involved in all aspects of pre-opening until a general manager is assigned to each hotel.

A 23-year veteran of the hospitality industry, Slater began his career at the Stouffer Dayton Plaza Hotel The Plaza Hotel in New York City is a landmark 19-story luxury hotel with a height of 250 feet (76 m) and length of 400 feet that (122 m) occupies the west side of Grand Army Plaza, from which it derives its name, and extends along Central Park South in Manhattan.  in Dayton, Ohio in 1978. From 1981 - 1988, Slater held various management positions with several Stouffer locations including Dayton, Ohio; Boston, Massachusetts; Lake Lanier, Georgia; and St. Louis, Missouri. He joined Doubletree Hotels in 1988 and has served as general manager of properties in Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Pasadena and Scottsdale. Slater's most recent position was managing director for Doubletree Guest Suites and all Promus properties in Austin, Texas.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Slater serves on the board of directors of the Austin Hotel Association, and the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau. Previous appointments include presidencies of the Overland Park Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Salt Lake Valley Salt Lake Valley is a 500 square mile valley in Salt Lake County in the north-central portion of the U.S. state of Utah. It contains Salt Lake City and many of its suburbs, notably West Valley City, Sandy, and West Jordan; its total population is 948,172 as of 2005.  Hotel/Motel Association, and vice president of the Kansas City Hotel/Motel Association.
