He reports to Ken Smith, senior vice president for Hilton Hotels Corporation's hotel division. The Hilton Americas - Houston will contain 1,200 rooms, 90,000 square feet of meeting space and will open in November 2003. The Hilton Austin will contain 800 rooms, 60,000 square feet of meeting space and will open in January 2004. In his new position, Slater will manage the entire pre-opening process, which will include operation issues, as well as corporate functions. Slater will be involved in all aspects of pre-opening until a general manager is assigned to each hotel. Slater's most recent position was managing director for Doubletree Guest Suites and all Promus properties in Austin, Texas. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Slater serves on the board of directors of the Austin Hotel Association, and the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau.
