Andrx Builds-up Manufacturing Team; Hires Seasoned Veteran as VP of Manufacturing Operations.

Andrx Corporation (Nasdaq:ADRX) today announced that James G. Schwier has joined Andrx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as Vice President, Manufacturing Operations.

Commenting on Mr. Schwier's employment, Richard J. Lane, Andrx Chief Executive Officer, said: "Jim's employment speaks volumes for Andrx's continued investment in its people and processes, particularly in manufacturing. Mr. Schwier has fifteen years of domestic and international pharmaceutical experience. Most recently, he worked at Pfizer; Parke-Davis Pharmaceuticals Ltd., as Director of Manufacturing at Pfizer's largest solid-dosage plant, located in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. In this position, Mr. Schwier's scope of responsibility included overseeing the manufacturing process for more than 25 products with annualized sales support of nearly $7 billion and a manufacturing workforce in excess of 500 employees. He was also responsible for optimizing Pfizer's manufacturing operations to support the launches and rapid growth for 2 blockbuster drugs, Lipitor(R) and Neurontin(R). Prior to the Pfizer/Warner-Lambert merger, from 1987 to 1999, Mr. Schwier was employed by Warner-Lambert in various progressively responsible roles in research and development, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain and technical services, including multiple international assignments in Germany and Puerto Rico. A summa cum laude engineering graduate from Rochester Institute of Technology, Mr. Schwier holds a Masters of Science in Business Management from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Andrx currently has approximately 500,000 square feet of space dedicated to manufacturing operations. As previously disclosed, the Company is currently expanding its manufacturing facility in Davie, FL, and is considering an additional $40 million expansion in its manufacturing operations. Part of the Company's consideration is to establish manufacturing operations outside of Florida to further diversify its labor pool.
